Long Beach Golf Hall of Fame Welcomes Coaching Innovator Dana Dahlquist and Community Champion Troy Grant

On August 3, 2025, the Long Beach Golf Hall of Fame inducted two individuals whose careers have profoundly shaped the local golf landscape: Dana Dahlquist and Troy Grant. The heartfelt ceremony, held at El Dorado Park Golf Course, coincided with the closing of the Long Beach Open.

Founded in 1996 by the Department of Parks, Recreation and Marine, the Hall of Fame honors individuals who have demonstrated excellence through performance, leadership, and service. This year’s honorees exemplify that powerful legacy.

Dana Dahlquist: The Teacher's Teacher

A Virginia Country Club alum, Dana Dahlquist transitioned from competitive play to coaching in the early 2000s, making his mark at Heartwell Park, Skylinks, and El Dorado Park. Today, he is celebrated as one of the most respected instructors in golf.

Dahlquist’s approach blends cutting-edge technology—utilizing tools like Sportsbox AI, Trackman, and force-plate analysis—with a deeply personal coaching style. His ability to connect with golfers of all levels has earned him national acclaim, a loyal following, and the title of "The Teacher's Teacher."

Troy Grant: The Community Champion

Troy Grant’s contributions to Long Beach golf span decades, ranging from competitive play to tireless advocacy for youth and community programs.

Grant is recognized for:

  • Mentorship: Tirelessly mentoring junior players, helping to grow the sport in Long Beach and beyond.

  • Leadership: Organizing local tournaments that foster community spirit.

  • Inclusion: His unwavering commitment to accessibility has made him a beloved figure among players, parents, and fans.

Ceremony Highlights and Lasting Impact

The induction ceremony, held at approximately 2:30 p.m. during the Long Beach Open's closing festivities, drew a crowd of supporters, students, and fellow Hall of Famers.

  • Mayoral Praise: Mayor Rex Richardson commended both inductees for “inspiring future generations through their teaching and coaching.”

  • Ambassadorial Role: Parks Director Brent Dennis hailed them as “true ambassadors of the game.”

  • The Best in the Sport: Bob Livingstone, Chairman of the Hall of Fame Committee, affirmed that both "Dana and Troy both exemplify the best in the sport of golf. They are very deserving of induction into this prestigious group.”

The induction of Dana Dahlquist and Troy Grant ensures that their dedication to performance, innovation, and community will be honored for generations to come.
