Live from Long Beach’s Soaked Fairways: Who’s Golfing in This Storm?

While most of Long Beach huddled indoors, a brave few took to the greens—armed with umbrellas, rain gloves, and questionable judgment. Our field reporter hit Rec Park, El Dorado, and Skylinks to investigate: Who’s dedicated enough to golf in this weather?

The Reports from the Tees

The weather was rough, but the spirit of Long Beach golf proved resilient:

  • Rec Park 18: Ten determined players were spotted splashing their way through puddled tee boxes and soggy fairways.

  • El Dorado: Hosted nine players, including one twosome making the turn who insisted, “This is perfect golf weather!”

  • Skylinks: The course was locked up tight. No carts, no swings, no mercy—the course management prioritizing turf safety.

The rain came sideways, and the turf squished underfoot, yet photos captured soaked smiles and dripping gear. Interviews revealed a mix of stubborn pride and weather-induced delirium.

A Crucial Message: Respect the Turf

Here’s the serious part: More rain is coming. Courses may go cart-path-only, and for good reason. Saturated ground is incredibly fragile—one off-path cart can tear up turf that takes weeks to recover.

Please remember: Cart Path Only means Cart Path Only. Respect the course and its staff by staying strictly on the designated pavement to preserve the fairways for better weather.

Off the Course: Safety First

City officials are urging caution. Streets are flooding; city workers were spotted pumping water at Studebaker and Willow, trying to keep the roads clear.

So, whether you’re chasing birdies or just trying to get home, stay dry, stay safe, and remember: Keep your wheels off the wet grass!
